John Wood, G4EAT SK (1955 - 2015) I read in last RSGB Rardcom's issue 5/2015, in G4BAO's SHF column shocking news, that well known UHF/SHF enthusiast John Wood, G4EAT became silent key on 22nd February 2015. John died because of sudden heart attack a month short of his 60th birthday. John was mainly active from his home QTH on the top of Danbury Hill JO01HR and out /P. He won/did many UK microwave trophies, records and he was very well known across the Europe especially because of his outstanding results on 10 and 24 GHz. Many stations (not only) in Middle Europe remember his strong signal during Autumn tropo condx on UHF and SHF as well as during 10 GHz RS openings. I personally worked him several times from Prague on 2m, 70cm and once even on 23cm on distance of 987km although I have completely closed direction to UK by near forest. His outstanding work stand for itself, but above all this, he was a genuinely nice guy. RIP John.. Matej, OK1TEH (source of photo: http://www.microwaves.dsl.pipex.com ) |
