2016, VK to EU Microwave DX Expedition, June 17-19.
Following our very successful DX Expedition in June 2015, we VK's have
decided we will return in June 2016.
Once again, Australian Amateurs David - VK5KK, Alan - VK3XPD and a few
other VK's will be attending the 2016 Friedrichshafen Hamfest over the
weekend of June 24, 25 and 26.
This time however, we will be bringing our "upgraded" portable
Transverters for various Microwave and Millimetre Wave Bands.
We VK's plan to arrive in Germany/Austria a week or so before the
Friedrichshafen Hamfest.
We will be operating our portable Microwave gear from that fabulously
high vantage point at 1783 Metres ASL.. the Hotel on the summit of
Schafbergspitze in Austria, loc: JN67RS26AJ
We have Booked our "sky high" Accommodation commencing Friday, June 17th
through the weekend to Monday, June 20th.
So.. we potentially have 3 full days available for Amateur Radio. (
further operating days will be issued on ON4KST net )
Initially, we will be working our friends Wolfgang - OE4WOG, Hans -
OE2JOM and Rudi - OE5VRL who will likely be going portable on local high
vantage points in/around Salzburg.
We would however love the opportunity to work as many other EU Amateurs
on as many Bands as possible from OE, OK, DL, F, HB, I, etc. depending
on the Propagation.
By necessity due to our International travel, the Portable RF gear we
bring will generally be QRP’ish.
We will however have OCXO/GPS Locked capabilities for all our
Transverters on these Bands :
1296 MHz - 2 Watts, Yagi,
5.76 GHz - 2 Watts, Panel,
10 GHz - 1 Watt, Panel
24 GHz - 100 Milliwatts, 300 mm NURAD Dish,
47 GHz - 23 Milliwatts, 300 mm Dish,
76 GHz - 3 Milliwatts, 300 mm Dish and..
122 GHz at circa -10 dBm ?
This final Band will of course be a “bare” Mixer feedinga 300 mm Dish.
We will also have 2 Metres and 70 cms (5 Watts) from our GPS Locked
FT-817 IF Radio’s hopefully feeding small Yagi’s providedby Wolfgang.
So… to summarise our proposed 2016 VK-EU DX Expedition :
OPERATORS : Alan – VK3XPD and David – VK5KK with severalother VK
Operators participating (bringing RF gear too).
DATES: Friday, June 17th - commence gear Shakedown.
Then we continue to operate on all Bands until the Evening of Sunday
June 19th, 2016.
BANDS : 2 Metres, 70 cms, 23 cms, 5.7 GHz, 10 GHz, 24 GHz, 47 GHz, 76
GHz and 122 GHz.
OPERATING MODES : SSB, CW and perhaps WSJT Digital on ALL Bands !
OPERATING FREQUENCIES : All Transverters will use standard Worldwide SSB
Calling Frequencies.
LIAISON : Cell Phones and perhaps 2 Metres on say 144.150 MHz...
This to be confirmed.
